Intro

We get this question a lot. No, we get this almost everyday. Surprisingly, on rare ocassions, after a one-day seminar on ‘How to be good at English‘, students would come and ask this magical question.

“Coach, my English is very bad. Grammar not good. Writing not good. Speaking ‘out’. How to be “terrer” (i.e. good) in English?”.

Obviously, some were waiting for a quick formula like a magic or something. Thus, whatever the explanation we did fell into deaf ears. Almost everybody wants quick results. They want it like the fast and furious. They want a miracle. If only our brain is like a PC. Just insert a DVD and voila! full English installation. That would be easy huh? But then again, why would God Almighty reveal the first word “READ!”? It’s all about the effort. The hardwork. The process of learning. Between a hard-earned million and a lottery-won million, which one lasts longer?

So the point is, there’s no shortcut to be good at English. There will never be. Learning is a process. It takes time. When you have a very strong reason to be good at the language, chances are you will do whatever it takes. You can actually learn faster if you double or triple the effort. Do more, get more. The best way to make sure the effort is not wasted is to do it the right way. The FUN way.

No matter how far you the journey is, it’ll be a cruise when your heart is in it. Similarly, a short walk will be a torture when your heart is against it. In learning English, we have to take the long way, but who says the long way should be boring and tiresome. Make the long way – the process – FUN and enjoyable.
